Six weeks into pre-season, with the first game only days away and how are things looking? As with any pre-season we’re looking forward, putting season 2007/08 behind us and focussing on the possibilities that stretch out before us. Where we will be come April next year? Hopefully not looking at a heap of re-arranged fixtures that still need to be played anyway, it would be nice if just for once the season ended at a sensible time, perhaps even allowing us more than the usual couple of days to recover from the club dinner.

As with any season there will be heros and villans – will Gus continue to bamboozle the opposition with the best side-step a hobbit has ever produced, will Stu Ross once again top the tackle stats, will our statistician get his finger out and produce stats for every game (unlikely – Ed.) will Ally Wright manage to keep his bladder under control? When will Rosey actually come back or is the thought of the wrath of Keith so terrifying that we may never see him again?

Thankfully Stuggy has been sent away to the States for a year so hopefully there will be no repeat of the left bollock incident.

One thing that is clear is that the “last game ever on the big pitch” was a serious case of false advertising – that day is yet to come. So Keith will have another opportunity to engage in psychological warfare – having the pipe band warm up in the room next to the opposition was the clear mark of an evil genuis.

This Saturday we host GHA on the afore-mentioned big pitch, kick off at 2.30pm. The 2nd XV are taking a squad to the Clydebank 10’s – as defending champions we hope they at least find the trophy and take it back with them.
