Summer is Coming, and Tartan Touch at Hughenden

Hillhead Jordanhill RFC is very proud to have been selected as a new Tartan Touch Hub this season!
This summer, The Hills will host sessions at Hughenden of this very integrative and simplified non-contact version of Rugby. Minis, junior and senior players will all mix in, and welcome any new comers to the game and the club.

The rules are very easy and designed to maximise the fun around a rugby ball; please visit tartantouch.org for a preview.

More information will come following this announcement, stay tuned for details!

Under 16s Update

Due to the schools October break, no Club games have been scheduled over the past two weeks. This has given us a chance to “lick our wounds” after two pretty serious maulings from Cambuslang and Hawks respectively. Our much younger and lighter squad stuck to their task gamely and are beginning to put together some good phases of play. The physicality of the opposition eventually tells however and despite some trenchant defending from a solid core of players, we begin to lose touch.

The really positive news, however, is that our squad has grown to 22 boys who are all keen to learn. They really enjoy the training sessions and Rory, David, Daryll and Innes (Rory’s younger, bigger and better looking brother) deserve great credit for building a really positive team spirit.

Our remaining league games are against: Cartha QP (A) on Oct 30th, Oban (A) on 6th Nov, Udd/Way/Drum (A) on 13th Nov, Cambuslang (H) on 20th Nov and Cartha QP (H) on 27th Nov. Kick off is normally at 2pm.

We would be delighted to see as many Hills supporters as possible at any or all of our games – the boys and coaches deserve as much backing from the Club as possible.
The Over 16

Hills Under 16 Boys v Uddingston/Waysiders

Hills played their first match of the season at Hughenden yesterday with a very young squad of 17 players drawn from Hyndland Secondary, Hillhead High School and Jordanhill School.

On a blustery day, Hills were asked to play into the wind, which added to their difficulties against a visiting team which had already played 4 games. Despite some excellent defence in the tight areas, the boys struggled when the opposition moved the ball wider and found themselves down 0-24 at half time.

The interval gave the team some time to regroup, and the second half commenced with the boys in full flight, driven on by a strong tailwind and the well chosen words of coach David Brown.

The 2nd half ended 12-12, with Hills scoring two excellent tries through Hussain Mohsan and our captain Ayrton To, with one conversion from Finn Stewart, as well as being thwarted a few times by last ditch defence, after some excellent driving forward play.

All 17 boys deserve great credit for performing so well in their first outing against more experienced and much heavier opposition.

Final score: Hills 12 v Uddingston/Waysiders 36
