Hills Continue to Struggle
Hillhead/Jordanhill 13pts Peebles 60pts
“Hills” poor league form continued at Hughenden where they were soundly defeated by a very adventurous Peebles side by six goals, three tries and one penalty goal to two tries and one penalty goal. The major depressing statistic was that “Hills” were still marginally in the game at the end of the first period when they trailed their visitors by twenty four points to thirteen, but the second half produced thirty six unanswered points for Peebles and continuing headaches for the home players, coaches and support.
“ Hills” enjoyed little continuity and phase building in their play, but their line out was much better through productive touchline work from both second rowers, Scott Whiteford and Captain, Calum Stove. The set scrum was steady without ever threatening to be dominant, but it was in the loose where “Hills” suffered as their visitors were relentless in their pursuit of the fifteen man game, constantly keeping the ball in hand and always finding holes in the home defence with their lines of running.
“ Hills” impressed with some fine individual play from Ross Thomson at the base of the scrum who sniped and tackled all day and also the mercurial Rory Harte at full back who scored a fine interception try with a balletic shimmy at its conclusion. David Vallance on the left wing finished off well from close range and Bradely Robbins opened the scoring with a penalty goal from thirty metres.
“Hills “ therefore remain pointless after their first seven National league games and next week travel to Poynder Park at Kelso where they will require to show some stiffer resolve to stay upside with the Borderers.
