HILLS COMFORTABLE HOME VICTORY AGAINST ROYAL HIGH

A half time lead of 29-6 was consolidated at full time to a final score of 53-13, yielding 5 league points for the Hills in this their penultimate home game in the 2022/2023 season.

At no stage were Hills under threat in this fixture, although they were mightily embarrassed when their visitors twice took an early lead in the first quarter of the game via two penalty goals converted by their hooker, Kerr Williamson. But Hills sharper fitness, their ball winning prowess at the breakdown and their all round, open field direct running and handling was too much for the very spirited Barnton men.

First half tries flowed from Sean Black, Graham Davidson, Preston McGoldrick, Matt Henderson and Liam Tighe. Four further tries were added in the second half with Man of the Match, Liam Tighe, excelling in his tight head prop role, adding 3 to his first half counter and Rory Harte bagging the other.

The standard of place kicking did not, however, match the other skills on show with only 4 of the 9 tries being converted. Stand off Rory Harte, normally “Mr Reliable” off the kicking tee, had a serious “ off day” , suffering the indignity of having his conversion in front of the posts being charged down. Stand in full back, Craig Colvin, was eventually successful off the tee.

The final 10 minutes of the game belonged to Royal High who camped determinedly in the home twenty two to eventually gain a consolation try after many phases of play. Their successful conversion was the last act of the game.

There is now a break in the Domestic programme for the final 6N game on Saturday March 18th. Hills resume their competitive programme with an away game at Forfar vs Strathmore on Saturday March 25th.
