Mini Rugby
Playing Groups
Hillhead Jordanhill RFC runs multiple mini rugby groups:
- Rugby Rascals is our pre-school group where the emphasis is very much on fun and features game-based introduction to foundation skills. The class is aimed at those in nursery 1-2.
- P1 to P3 is non-contact rugby, where children learn basic skills through fun training drills and also compete in touch games.
- P4 to P7 is contact rugby with some restrictions which take into account youth and inexperience, although enthusiasm and commitment are always present!
Boys and girls play and train together. The move from Rascals to P1-3 is fluid with children only moving on when they, and their parents, are ready.
All our coaches are verified through Disclosure Scotland’s PVG scheme and most are qualified to UKCC1 level or above.
Frequently Asked Questions
Training
Hills Mini’s train every Sunday during school term time. Training normally takes place at Hughenden and starts at 10:00am sharp.
This is only likely to change when playing away games, or the weather necessitates indoor training. Email us using the contact form to ensure you know what the plan is that weekend. The parking restrictions don’t apply on a Sunday!
Don’t worry if your child has never played rugby before. We’ll make sure they get plenty of coaching and encouragement in a friendly and supportive environment.

Get Involved
It isn’t just about the children though, as we are entirely staffed by volunteers we positively encourage parental involvement in a variety of ways.
We are always keen to here from you if you are interested in coaching and will be open to paying for suitable coaching courses – you needn’t be a rugby expert or former player. The broader the skills and more fun the kids have the better. It would be great to get some more female coaches given the number of girls playing!
We also need help on the admin side, organising player kit and with catering when we host other clubs.
Any questions?
Costs
As a club funded almost entirely through its members, it is crucial that everyone makes sure that they pay their membership subs. It also ensures your child is insured. You can find more about this on our membership page.
The only exception is for the Rascals where we ask for £3 a session to cover kit.
We keep a stock of kit which you can buy on a Sunday but the club stockist has a full range of excellent kit – great for birthdays and Christmas! Visit our shop.
