STUART IRVINE – A NOTE OF THANKS FOR HIS SERVICE

It would not have been the 2nd XV league game he would have chosen to retire on given the eventual one sided of the final scoreline, BUT Stuart can hold his head rightly high on account of his longevity of commitment and service to the “Hills”, his club over many seasons at Hughenden.

In his playing days, Stuart was an aggressive winger, whose promising rugby career was cut sadly short due to frequent shoulder dislocations. Undaunted by his experiences, Stuart took his Coaching qualifications and transferred seamlessly to his new touchline role as 2nd XV coach.

Hills could not have asked for a more reliable 2nd XV coach than Stuart. It was only Covid which saw him removed from either training evenings or match days. But his contribution did NOT end there, as he was an equal partner with Lois Legendre when both undertook Match Secretary duties for the Hills 2nd and 3rd XVs over a 5 year period. Overall some 9 continuous seasons of unswerving commitment as a Volunteer.

It was perhaps ritualistic that in his final 2nd XV ” huddle” the players rewarded Stuart for all his efforts by dousing him with water !! A more fitting and final tribute will be advised later.

WELL DONE THAT MAN !!
